"Walking" the stitches
When working dpns, I 'walk' the stitches around the needles so the break isn't at the same place.

I'll knit the first stitch from a 'fresh' needle onto my empty working needle, then immediately transfer that first stitch to the previous needle. Then I work the rest of the stitches normally. On my next needle change, I again transfer the first stitch to the previous needle.

With a place marker to tell me where the round starts, it really doesn't matter much usually whether that start is at the beginning, end or middle of the needle.
