Another option is to knit the middle field in stockinette with the intention of doing the logo in duplicate st (Swiss Darning). Print out knitting graph paper (free online...several sites) scaled to your gauge. Allocate X number of 'squares' (in knitting the sqs are actually rectangles) to correspond to a certain number of sts on the afghan. Color the 'squares' to reflect the image you want. (You obviously don't need to do ALL the orange for tiger, etc just outline where that color would fill.)

As with cross-stitch, by doing dupe you can adjust placement, resize, start over, etc once the afghan is made. With intarsia you have work the image in as you're knitting. With either you'll have tails to deal with on the WS.
