I would suggest starting with size 8, 9 or 10 bamboo needles.
If you have projects in mind, you get the correct yarn for the project.
If you have no beginner projects, I do have some I can share with you.

Usually starting with 3 or 4 ply yarn is easiest. 3 ply is "baby" type yarns, 4 ply is worsted.

If you want easy care *throw in the washing machine and dryer* start with acrylics, wool-ease, or read the labels carefully.
