Kimono Style Sweater - Help

Hey all. I'm trying to figure out how to make a Kimono sleeve sweater with a modified bateau neck to make a little bit narrower. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I hope I'm explaining this well enough to make it clear.

Do you have a pattern or are you trying to wing it?

I'm gonna have to piece it together from different patterns. I can't find one that is exactly what I want. I'll have no problem getting the fit that I want...it's more the neck and sleeve that I'm gonna have trouble with.

This is the style that I wan't, just more fitted.

Oh duh...I never though about getting a sewing pattern and knitting the pieces to get what I want. That I may be able to find.

Yeah, you can do that, sketch out the shape you want and put in the measurements of the different sections. But it looks sorta like you could just do 2 squares for the body, sew the shoulders together to the width you want for the neck then pick up for the sleeves. Or make 2 T shape pieces, inc on the sides where you want the sleeves to begin and after some inc rows, CO more sts for the lower sleeves. Look up patterns for 'bat wing' or 'dolman' sleeves and just make the top edges of the body straight across and seam the shoulders.

I saw a book for knitting kimonos at my local library. I can't think of the name of it now. But they had you just knitting rectangles and piecing them together. This is a simple shape. Here is a baby sweater pattern that has similar construction. The only difference would be to make two back pieces instead of the back and two front pieces for the cardigan. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see how this would be constructed. You could knit the sleeves separately as a flat piece, sew the shoulder seams, sew the sleeves to the body, then seam this from the bottom of the sleeve to the top and down the sides. You could also sew the shoulder and side seams, then pick up stitches and knit the sleeves in the round. The type of neckline on this would be called a boat neck, if you sew.
