What stitches are stretchy...?
Beginner knitter here so just a couple of questions...
what kind of stitches are stretchy, but not lacing? Like e.g. the rib stitch?

Garter stitch? Moss stitch? Or they stretchy?
And it has to be quite simple... preferably with no purl

And also, is it easier to learn continental or English knitting?

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the KH forums and the wonderful weirdness of knitting.

Rib is a stitch pattern using knits and purls. It produces a very stretchy fabric. Fabrics composed of only knit stitches, if knit flat you'll have garter stitch or in the round you'll have stockinette, won't be as stretchy. I'm not sure what you mean by "not lacing" so can't comment on that part. Moss stitch requires you to purl. Is there a particular reason you don't want any purls? Without purls your options are flat garter stitch or stockinette in the round. Which style of knitting is easier to learn is totally dependent upon the learner and to some extent I suppose the teacher, in person or via video or written instructions. One style is not better than another except on an individual basis. Some find one style easier than another and for them that is the better one.

Don't be afraid of the purl!! You're kind of limited without it. What do you want to made that stretches?
