Decresing in moss stich
Hi there

I am knitting the silky muffler in Ros Badger's book Simple Knitting. I have done 25 rows of moss (seed) st with 29 stiches. That is K1 P1 each row

Now I am trying to decrease as follows...

Row 1 (RS) P2tog, moss st to last 2 sts, P2 tbl
Row 2 (WS) K2tog tbl, moss st to last 2 sts, K2tog
Repeat rows 1-2 until 3 sts remain

It is the moss stich in the centre that is troubling me. I have tried a few ways. Is it still K1 P1 for both rows?

Any assistance much appreciated. Trying to get this done for my Mum's birthday on Friday!!

Thank you
Renae

Hi and welcome to KH. Are you knitting the knits and purling the purls? I think that's what you have going. After you do your decrease, look at the next stitch. If it's a knit, purl it and continue on in pattern. If it's a purl, knit it and continue on. A knit stitch will look like a V and purl stitch will have a bar across.

Sometimes it helps to look at the stitch pattern on the previous row, two or three sts along the left needle. Determine if the current row should be worked the same as the previous row or done in the opposite stitch. Then figure out if the stitchrow should be a knit or a purl stitch and count back to the stich at the tip of the needle, calling each stitch a k or a p along the way.
