It says cast on 196 stitches, so how do you do that pattern in the gauge? I don't think a gauge is necessary for an afghan either but I wanted to see what it looked like. I don't see how I can do a gauge with the pattern stitch!
I'm also thinking of knitting individual squares in different patterns, then sewing them together. NOt sure how hard it is to sew all those squares together though. Way back when Knitting Help started, we knit squares and sent them to someone? who sewed them together as a present to Amy, long time ago!
