Dish cloths/kitchen towels/pot holder patterns

I think KellyK suggested this awhile back but it's finally sunk in and made it on my To Do list. I would love to make a few sets of dish cloths, kitchen towels and pot holders for the women in my family. I think if I start working them in between my main projects I can get them done for Christmas.

What I'm looking for is a book of patterns, any experience level. Anyone come across one that they'd recommend? I normally buy my books from Crafter's Choice but I wasn't able to find anything on the topic.

Also, any recommendations on yarn to use or not use? My husband said that his mom knit dish clothes when they were kids and they never lasted very long.

I would use Lily Sugar & Cream...just plain old cotton, comes in a MILLION colors.

Here is the website I like for dishcloths, no need to BUY a book! Dishcloths are SO simple...you can really use any stitch pattern that you like!

It's been crazy here at work and I just got a chance to check the site. I'm so excited that I can get a ton of free patterns! That means more money for yarn! I'm going to bookmark all of the sites and check them out in detail this weekend, plus do a little online shopping

I know what you mean about our little addiction. I have to keep a notebook with me at all times so when I think of a cool gift for someone I can schedule it in with my other projects so it gets finished on time. My husband loves making suggestions too. I figure if I can load him with woodworking and home improvement projects then he can load me with "make me socks" or "that pattern is cool" requests!

KnitQueen - Thank you for that website. Those sheep are so cool and I saw from the home page a cool pattern with crosses. My best friend will be graduating from seminary school this May and it's a perfect gift!

Knitqueen, I clicked on the link (to the list of patterns) from the page you linked, and found this adorable little soap bag. I have a bunch of natural soap bars which I received as payment for advertising on my homeschooling website from a soapmaking sahm. She no longer advertises with us, but I built up quite a supply while she was, and I like to give them as gifts. I've always wanted to think of some special way of packaging them, and this little bag is just the ticket. I'm happy!

I was going to buy some of the cotton chenille from numei.com to make those cute petal washclothes in Weekend Knitting...they say its comparable to the higher priced stuff....anyone done that yet?
