Understanding sleeve decrease instructions

Hi!

My pattern says the following to shape the sleeve cap:

Decrease 1 st every 4th row 2x.

Does that mean dec 1 st on the 4th row, dec 1 st on the 5th row, dec 1 st on the 8th row and dec 1 st on the 9th row?

or

Dec 1 st at the beg and end of the 4th row, and dec 1 st at the beg and end of 8th row?

I interpret:
1st row .... knit
2nd row .... knit
3rd row .... knit
4th row .... decrease
5th row .... knit
6th row ..... knit
7th row ..... knit
8th row ..... decrease

Whether the dec is at the beginning or end of the row is up in the air. The pattern does not specify ...

What pattern is it? Is it online?

Sorry everyone, I wrote it wrong. It says "...shape armhole at both sides: in every 4th row, 1 st (2x).

I read this to be to bind off the first stitch on rows 4,5, 8 & 9, but looks like I'm wrong.

Any other thoughts?

Oh, btw, it was a Lana Grossa Model of the Month that is no longer on line. I guess they retire some of their patterns. Shame. They're so beautiful.

Hmm ... so then it would still be ...
1st row .... knit
2nd row .... knit
3rd row .... knit
4th row .... decrease (1st at each end)
5th row .... knit
6th row ..... knit
7th row ..... knit
8th row ..... decrease (1st at each end)

Now whether you bind off or simply k2tog is unclear. Unfortunately, I haven't made enough sweaters to offer pros/cons on either method :(

Anyone else care to chime in?

No, Ekgheiy, it's not one of LG's MOM that is still posted. It must be from 2003 or some back year that they now archived. Lana Grossa used to have a lot more patterns available, and they pulled them. When I enter the URL of the pattern, I get "page not found" (in German

)

btw, I am continually ripping out and redoing those d#@!! sleeves. I made them way too long and ran out of yarn! So I had to rip them back and start the sleeve cap all over again (again again) for both . Well, at least I won't run out of yarn (I hope). I really want to finish that sweater! OK, here's one more try to explain. Here's the wording from the pattern and my interpretation:

Here are the whole sleeve instructions, since it's not on the Web anymore:

...cast on 36 sts and work in basic patten, starting with K1 *k2p2 then repeat the pattern, (p2=centre of the sleeve). To shape the sleeves, inc at both edges 1 st in every alternate 6th and 8th row (12x). When work measures 41 cm, shape armhole at both sides (emphasis mine): in every 2nd row cast off 3 st (1x), 2 sts (1x), and 1 st (2x), in every 4th row 1 st (2x) and again in every 2nd row 1 st (6x), 2 st (1x) and 3 sts (2x). When wk measures 56 cm, cast off loosely"

it's the 1 st ea end every 4th row that trips me up. I count that the dec's for the armhole = 46 sts over 35 rows (bec you have to dec on row 8 and 9).

(3x2=6st dec over 2 rows) + (2x2=4st dec over 2 rows) + (1x2=2 st dec + 1x2=2 st dec over 4 rows) + (1x2 + 1x2 over 9 rows) + (1x2 + 1x2 + 1x2 + 1x2 + 1x2 + 1x2 over 12 rows) + (2x2 over 2 rows) + (3x2+ 3x2 over 4 rows)

but I've been wrong before....lotsa times.

**whoever wrote this pattern should be smacked with size 19 circs!! There's got to be an easier way to write this
