Okay, I have a knack for this stuff- I thought. I am trying to knit a round bag, and I just want to know if I am doing it right. I am using a circular needles and I have kintted about 5 rounds. It looks okay, but shouldnt the bottom be colsed?? I dont understand how it works. If someone could just explain what it should look like along the way- I would be very grateful!
When you knit in the round, you knit a tube. Are you using a pattern? Most in-the-round bag patterns I've seen have you knit the bottom flat and then pick up stitches around the edge on a circular needle. Then you can knit the sides up in a continuous circle.

i just finished the jenanne bag and it is knit as a tube and then closed up. it came out pretty well though i still need to line it (not required i just want to) mine didn't come out the same shape as the one in the pic when i was done knitting it but i think that it made it easier to shape it. http://www.jenanne.com/PATTERNfeltedbag.htm

no that one is knit from the top down. once you start getting further down the bag it will start getting smaller ...that will be the bottom! much easier way to do it than bottom up from what i have seen so far!
You'll be fine! There are many ways to do the bottom of a felted bag. The first ones that I made I knit the "tube" and then sewed the bottom seam. If you want the bottom to "sit" then after you sew the seam, you can sew down "triangles" inside the purse, on both sides of the seam, as wide as you'd like it to be. Clear as mud, I know. Somebody help me out explaining that.

btw...i have seen other people do this too (and i think i did when i first started checking out knitty...) tangy is their description of how difficult the pattern is. there is a place on the site that explains it but i dont' remember where. i do love that bag though...just maybe not with the fun fur at the top...have to think on that before i do it!
