Felting with Landscapes
Felting is not an exact science, the rate of felting varies depending on how it is washed, water temperature, detergent and amount of agitation. Also the size of the piece effects the outcome. Larger pieces felt differently than smaller pieces.
Landscapes is a yarn made with an acrylic core [50%] that is wrapped with a wool wrap [50%]. It does not felt exactly as 100% Wool felts and may need additional washing to fully felt.
Projects made with Landscapes that are to be felted should be process as follows:
Wash by machine on a long setting with hot water/cold rinse with detergent with several pieces of clothing to agitate.
Wash item several times if necessary with hot water depending on how quickly the project felts.
To felt additionally, dry by machine on a regular setting until almost dry.
Remove from dryer and lie flat to shape.
Trim excess “fuzzies” with small scissors.
Fun Fur worked with Landscapes can be washed and dried, but will not felt.
Since they say it WILL felt,, you might try a swatch just to see. You may eed to adjust the pattern, but if you really like and want to use that yarn, it might be worth it just to see what happens.
If you still want to substititute, you can probablly use lamb's pride BULKY by brown sheep or a double trand of WOTA from knitpicks!
there is a pattern for a non-felted yoga bag in stitch and bitch nation, if you want to keep your yarn; the pattern is more open--really just a bunch of eyelets. Landscapes is a good deal thicker than the yarn they recommend in the pattern, but I think it would look nice anyway. You'd just need to adjust the guage.
