Anyone tried dyeing yarn with red wine?

I have half a bottle of Shiraz (red) wine that does not agree with me, and I thought of using it to dye 3 small skeins of rather dirty-looking white boucle' alpaca yarn. It is natural, that is, has not been dyed or whitened. Has anybody used wine for dying yarn and if so anything I should know?

Hi Friends,
Well I dyed the alpaca boucle' using the half bottle of wine. I followed the general procedure for using Kool-Aid but I did not soak in vinegar first since I thiught the wine was probably pretty acidic. I'm not sure now if it was or not. So I soaked it and microwaved it for 2 mins, waited 2 mins, then microwaved for 2 mins. Then rinsed it in plain water 3 times. Anyway it came out a pale mauve, not bad really, sort of like a light gray poodle with a pinkish cast
Note, if you want to do this, wear rubber gloves - under my finger nails are all dark purple!

i've dyed fabric with tea, but never yarn.

it has to be VERY strong.
