Very first try-double cast-on question

I'm learning how to knit for the very first time ever! I watched the video for the double cast-on and think I've got it. But my question is....what happens when you get close to the end of the tail? Do you just leave it dangling? Are you supposed to cast-on until the end? I coul get all but about 2 inches. Thanks so much for the help!!

You should have a tail. Just leave it hanging until you're done knitting. Then you can weave it in when you're done.
