Gauge swatches aside for now (they will be done later when I find a yarn)...My cardigan pattern calls for worsted or heavy worsted at a gauge of 16 stitches over 4 inches. I'm trying to find a yarn and I notice several that have a gauge of 15 stitches over 4 inches. Is this close enough that by changing needle size you could get gauge? Would the needle size be larger or smaller?
Thanks for your help and opinions. I just haven't made enough things that require getting gauge to know all this yet.

i think one stitch under would be less of a problem than 1/4 inch under in your swatch. it just depends on how it knits up though. if you are looking to get MORE stitches you would go with a smaller needle, if i am thinking about that right and i don't think it would be hard to make the difference by switching needle sizes.
