Hi Folks

If anyone has some old needles they don't need or want, that girls
residential school I mentioned a bit ago sure could use some please! I just
heard that these girls who are in this residential treatment and school
program are all knitting up a storm and more are joining all the time too.
The staff is reporting that they're all knitting in their spare time,
scarves at first and now also some wrist warmers and hats, and that this has
greatly improved their behavior, calming them down and making a very
positive impact on them in general. They're also now talking about doing
some sort of charity knitting for community service too. How cool is this?
Imagine knitting helping like this, exactly what was hoped, but so good to
hear its working! the school is the Germaine Lawrence school btw, you can
read more about the school at their site http://www.germainelawrence.org/

Wren Ross who's their volunteer teacher tells me they're in need of more
needles, straights, and now they're getting to the point where circulars
will also be needed, so if you have some extras, or a kind you no longer
use, please consider sending them in if you can? Write me privately and
I'll give you mailing details, I'd say just about any size will work with
'something' they'll be knitting but mainly the more commonly used sizes are
the most needed right now.

Thanks folks, I know how generous you all are, and I really am so pleased to
hear first hand how well knitting in helping these girls out too. I'll keep
getting more feedback and let you know more as time goes on, but thought
you'd all be happy to hear that even a few short months of knitting since
the school year started has had a very positive impact on these girls!

Gail

Oh, shoot! I wish I'd known about this sooner. I've just made the switch to bamboo straight needls, and sent all my used aluminum ones to the Salvation army. I could have given them to this cause. If I run across any I've missed, I'd be happy to donate them.
