Another question about Backyard Leaves

I am making good progress on my Backyard Leaves scarf thanks to all the help I got from people on this board. Now that I am wll on my way, though, I have yet another question: On Row 41, when I join a second ball of yard, do I join it in the immediate next stitch, or do I somehow skip 2 stitches as it shows on the pattern page???

According to the book's directions, you should work until there are 12 stitches on right needle counting yarnovers and removing the marker (you should have just worked the second k2tog of the row), join a second ball of yarn and work to end.
