Snowflake pattern

A LYS is having a snowflake competition -- make a snowflake out of yarn, roving or wire and beads. You may knit, crochet, or needle felt your winter wonderland creation and submit by February 14th.

Any suggestions? Patterns?

All I have come up with so far is knitting a big swatch of wool, felting it, and then cutting out the snowflake pattern. I could even decorate it with beads when it is finished.
