Buttonholes

Hi every1! I'm making a cardigan with a vertical ribbing buttonband/buttonhole band. However, I have no clue how to make a buttonhole. I've viewed the video on this site, but I don't think I can do it on the band. I'm using size 8 needles and the band is 9 stitches wide in a k1,p1 rib. Can anyone please tell me how to (easily) make a buttonhole on this band? I have been making this sweater for almost 3 wks, and it would be done if I could just figure out the button holes. My buttons are 1".
