Flourescent / Neon Yellow (Saftey Yellow) Yarn

I am a volunteer EMT with my local Fire Dept. We got new EMT coats this year in the ever popular Lime Green "safety color". I'd like to make knit hats for everyone for those cold night calls but can't find the correct color anywhere.

I am looking for an acrylic yarn in the a yellow/green flourescent color. ANyone seen it anywhere?

Actually I think the flourescent yellow on the same page matches better but THAT'S THE IDEA!!!!

I'd like to make 12-15 hats (the number of squad members) so might look to see if I can't find something a llittle cheaper, ALTHOUGH wool would be warmer!!

I'm going to order a couple skeins and see how it works up!

You're welcome! Wool would definitely be warmer since that is your goal. I'm not sure, but I think you can get a hat out of one skein. :thinking: Guess that would be expensive, but you could do it over time. Maybe as Christmas gifts? I've never seen anything that bright elsewhere. I thought it might be cute for kids hats, too!

Now I see that it's a fine weight yarn #2. Might take more than one for a hat, but would be nice and thin to go under helmets if need be and since it glows in the dark it would be a safety feature.. You could also use it doubled just for some stripes of color with worsted weight yarn.

You might also consider Caron Simply Soft Brites - I think they have a "safety green" type color.

I'd forgotten about those! They wouldn't be as warm, but they are nice and bright!

Absolutely!!

Later, it was just pointed out to me that the acrylic yarn is not a good idea because it melts at high temps and that wool would be safer. SInce many EMTs respond to fires I guess I'll stick with wool!!
