Blocking Question

I have never blocked an item before but I also have never really made a wearable before. My question is this. Can you block Acrylics? I have never knit with wool before just acrylics. My LYS is Walmart and Zellers (A canadian chain store) and they pretty much only carry Acrylics so I go with what I can. so anyways back to my question can you block Acrylics and how do you? Thank you in Advance guys.


PS I love this site someone always has an answer and no question feels like a dumb question.

No, if it's 100% acrylic, it won't block, although, I do sometimes steam mine, and depending on the brand of yarn, that can help, but it can also make your acrylic a bit 'limp'.

This is what I mean I ask a question that I think is dumb but I ask anyway and someone always answers me and I don't feel dumb for asking. This site is just awesome. Also very addicting. I found myself knitting alot more since joining you guys.

I hope I'm not wasting my time! I am a new knitter and working on my first baby blanket. I'm using Lion BabySoft yarn which is 60 percent acrylic and 40 percent nylon or polyamid. My knitting has loosened up quite a bit since I started, but I was hoping that blocking would make the tighter areas look much nicer. Does an acrylic blend like BabySoft block? I really don't want to start over again ...

well there probably isn't much you can do with it if the beginning is MUCH tighter than the end (and it is a common problem, especially if you are newish) however, you can throw it in the wash when you are done and that will definitely help quite a bit to even out the stitches!
