Favorite Yarn and Needles for Socks?
I'm a returning knitter after spending many years strictly as a quilter. I'm now enjoying both!

However, the knitting world has changed greatly in the past 20 years. I'm discovering the joy of knitting socks, but I'd like to get your opinion:
  • What yarn do you most enjoy using - and wearing - for socks?
  • What kind of needles do you use? I'm using a size 3 bamboo (Fiddlesticks) now, but I wonder if another type would be better if I go to a lighter weight yarn.
  • Do you have a favorite pattern?
I'll appreciate any suggestions and look forward to hearing from you.

So far I like the Sinfonia sport weight cotton and Options, but I have yet to try out some of the others.

Oh my, you may as well be asking which child is my favorite when you ask which sock yarn is my fave!
I can tell you that I adore KnitPicks Classic Circulars sizes 0-2 for socknitting. Some fave yarns are the new TOFUtsies by SWTC; Regia Bamboo; Lorna's Laces; Schaeffer Anne; Opal; Lisa Souza; and the list goes on and on!

I love my #2 Clover bamboo DPN for socks. I usually use Sockotta yarn, but have recently discovered Comfort Color. Awesome. (I have never seen this in the store, I have been buying on eBay.)
Welcome back!!

I only have Options dpns, and I love them. I'm currently using Regia yarn. It's soft. I have some Lorna's Laces just waiting to be knitted up. Everyone I've heard just LOVES Lorna's!

I've been using patterns from the Sensational Knitted Socks books (there are two of them). One of my favorite patterns so far has been the Chevron socks. The pattern, when used with self-striping yarn, is gorgeous!!

I enjoy knitting socks with nice wool yarn I pick up at the farmer's market. I plan on having a good supply of wooly socks this winter ! For those I usually use size four or size six dpns, depending on the thickness of the yarn.

As for patterns, I do enjoy sockbug's patterns (http://sockbug.blog-city.com/), though sometimes you need to do a bit of math to resize them for the correct fit.
