Snuggle Tubbie for Kitties KAL

Greys4me posted a neat thread with a link to knit and crochet patterns to benefit The Snuggle Project, which provides handmade blankets for shelter animals. This Snuggle Tubbie is a great way to bust your stash because, let's be honest, kitties will sleep in ANYTHING!

Anyone want to join me? I'm going to use a bunch of Red Heart yarn that I've got lying around to make mine. It washes real soft and won't shrink up. I'll be donating it to my local animal shelter when done.

As another member mentioned, this is also a great way to nudge someone into knitting or crocheting. What could be better than making something to keep a shelter kitten warm? The cold weather will be here before you know it, and you can bet our local shelters will be in need of things to keep the babies warm.

OK, I've just started and I'm ALREADY confused! I hate that! So, here's most of the pattern:

1. Form a ring, ch3, 9 dc in ring; join.
2. Ch3 (first dc), 2 dc in each stitch around; join.
3. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next st,* repeat between *s around; join.
4. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 2 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.
5. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 3 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.
6. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 4 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.
7. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 5 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.
8. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 6 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.
9. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 7 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.
10. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 8 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.
11. Ch3, *dc in same st, dc in next 9 sts,* repeat between *s around; join.

On Row 1, it doesn't say how many to chain to form a ring, so I chained 5.

Row 2 went ok.

Here's the problem: the next rows say "dc in same st, dc in next st (next 2 sts, next 3 sts, etc, etc).

Somebody please explain this to me! I'm not "seeing" it. I'm sure it's pretty easy but this visual learner is stuck.

Essentially, as far as I can tell, it's just a way of increasing - so on the 4th row you'd dc in every stitch, but every 2 stitches dc in twice, then on the 5th row, dc in every stitch but every 3 stitches dc in twice, and so on. So on the 3rd row you'd essentially be doing 2 dcs in each stitch, but at the join, only do 1, I think.

It took me a couple of readings to get it, so not sure if I'm right or not - it's an odd way of writing the pattern but I think that's it!

To me, that says that on Row3, you chain three and DC in the same st. then dc in next stitch. then 2DC in next st. so I would do 2DC in a st, and then 1DC in next stitch and i would repeat it like that. Then on row 4, you would do 2DC in a st, then do 1 DC in the next 2 sts. Do you see what I mean? or am i confusing you?

After staring at it for awhile and looking at other crochet rounds and how they increase, this is what I'm seeing (my changes in blue). Is this right?

Thanks for everyone's input! I really want to make some of these. In fact, JoAnn's has a bunch of 50% off coupons this week and I think I'll grab my DH and get some of that really soft and fuzzy Rainbow Classic yarn. It comes in really big skeins in some nice pastel colors, it's 100% acrylic and will end up being less than $4 for an 11 oz. skein. Such a deal!

Does anyone know of a similar pattern in knitting rather than crochet? I'm much more confident with my knitting
