Which stitch?
What kind of stitch is this on either side of the cable on this shawl? Looks like seed stitch, but I wasn't sure.

It looks like Moss to me -- that's like a double seed stitch, 2 knits, 2 purls.

The pattern's on the same page - looks like it calls for plain seed stitch. But I agree that it looks more like moss - maybe just the bulkiness of the yarn?

But I think you could use any stitch you wanted for the ground, just by substituting it into the pattern.
