Can't I knit this in the round instead?

I know I can...I guess my question is it as easy as just knitting it in the round or is there other alterations to the pattern that I need to make?

Yes, you can. I made two of them in the round.

It looks to me like the only thing you might want to do is cast double the number of stitches less 4. You would use 1 stitch on each side for the seeming when you sewed the 2 pieces together.

I didn't change it at all. Just added the back and front CO sts and did it in the round. It's really easy to add a pattern to the bottom part as I did in this one. I did Feather & Fan on the other one I made. This one is just an eyelet pattern.
