Substituting yarn

I have 2 skeins of Patons Decor, medium wt. (4). If I double it. will it be heavy enough to substitute for Wool Ease Bulky? I want to do the Irish Hiking cap http://learningmywaythrough.wordpres...sh-hiking-hat/

What does the guage on the Patons Decor say for needle size? Looking at the picture the yarn doesn't look all that bulky (at least IMHO size 8 needles is not that bulky) and the pattern has no guage. I hate to say it, but you may have to knit the band and see how it fits your head....

It says 20 stitches, 26 rows. Size 7 needles. The hat's not for me, so I'm stuck.

You can try doing a swatch using the Decor doubled and see if it is close to the gauge listed for the hat. I don't swatch as often as I should, but I think it would be worth it here. Good luck!

If the Paton's decor is saying size 7 needles I think double stranding is going to be too bulky. I'm thinking Cascade is guaged for size 7 needles and when I double strand that I have to use size 11 needles to knit.
