YO - Yarn Over

I think I have made a HUGE mistake. Is a YO just the act of moving the yarn to the front or does in include the next knit stitch? The pattern is "YO K2". I have been moving the yarn and doing 3 knit stitches. This has worked for the first 4 inches of the Odessa hat from Magknits. Now that I am decreasing something is wrong. I spend more time tinking than I do knitting. I have a bad feeling that I am going to be frogging the whole hat tonight!

You will perform a yarn over, then knit the next two stitches from your left needle, not 3. A yarn over is just an increase. You'll bring your yarn between your needles, over top of the right needle, then knit as you normally would, in this case, the next 2 stitches from your left needle. A yarn over creates a new stich out of nothing. So like she said you would do one yarn over (move it to the front) and then knit two stitches from your left hand needle. How far along on the hat are you?

I was half way through the decrease, but suddenlly realized things had moved over one stich? Does that make sense? I was planning on tinking back about 8 rows to where the decrease started. Then decided I must have done something incorrectly in the begining. So I'll take it as a learning experience and start over. Thanks for your help.
