Knitting novice frustrated...please help!
Please help! I keep trying and it just isn't working!
Directions: Cast on 5 stitches. Then K1, M1, K1, YO, K2tog, M1, K1 - 7 stitches. I know how to do all of these things but what happens is this:
K1, M1 (now I have 3 st on right and 3 on left)
K1, YO, K2tog (& now I am out of st, so I can't M1, K1) I end up with 6 stitches. What am I doing wrong??? Ugh!

A M1 is a different inc than kfb, it doesn't use up a stitch. Try this:

CO 5 - kfb, k1, YO, k2tog, kfb. That should give you 7 sts.

If you want to learn how to M1 (done inbetween sts) look at the Increases page at this site.

When you do your YO, are you moving the yarn forward AND knitting the next stitch? Sometimes people get confused about yarnovers. All you do is move the yarn forward, thus creating a new stitch. Hope this helps!

Somehow you're using up too many stitches on that first K1, M1, because after you work that part you should have 2 stitches on the right needle and 4 on the left. You should be knitting the first stitch (K1) and then for the M1 you need to make a new stitch from between stitches 1 and 2 (I like the video labeled M1L on this website).

Good luck! I know it's frustrating, but you'll get this!
