Looking for patterns

Hi all! My first post...yeah! Anywho, I have been knitting for 3 years or so and basically a beginner. I am looking to expand my knitting horizons and want to try to make a sweater. I am looking for a very very basic easy sweater pattern (if there is one). Also, in the new Pottery Barn catalog they have a hand knit afgan which looks to me like they are using super bulky weight yarn and cables. I was wondering if anyone had a link for something similar. Book or website. Hopefully you all could help me out. Thanks!

Bernat.com has some nice afghans using heavier yarns. Lionbrand.com has loads of sweaters (many easy), as well as blankets. TONS of patts at knittingpatterncentral.com. Check out berroco.com for both afghans/sweaters. Garnstudio.com has sweaters of all difficulties.

Also, check your library. MANY books with patterns.

If you don't mind spending a few bucks these are the ones I usually recommend for first sweaters. I made #9724 3 mos after I started knitting and loved it. The patterns are well written and easy to follow.

If the link works there are several cabled afghans with bulky/super bulky yarns. If it doesn't work go to http://www.lionbrand.com/ and then choose pattern finder and you can input your own choices as I did at the link below.

Most yarn companies have free patterns, and Lionbrand is good because you can write to them if there is a problem with the directions. Also Bernat, Patons and Coats & Clark are very good for free patterns for basic sweaters. Once you are ready for more complicated things, have a go at knittingpatterncentral.com or garn studios or knitty.com. A great place for interesting patterns to download (they aren't free) is patternfish.com. Amazing stuff, there.
