fixing a too big hat??

I made my husband a hat and it turned out to be just a little too big around. I thought I had measured it correctly but it's a little loose and he wants it to fit snugly. Is there anything I can do to fix it?? I originally knit it flat and seamed it. I was thinking of just going over the seam a little and seeing if that would help. I don't want to start over but I'm not sure how best to fix it!

any advce would be really appreciated!

I have had the problem too! Just recently also. Its called blocking I think nd it shrinks it just a tad you get the stitches wet some. Im not sure how to do it exactly... but thats what it is called. I wish you luck!

I found out a little more -you can block it but be careful it could felt. You could wash it and put a balloon with it.( working with the circumference of this hat) Its pretty difficult to make it smaller from what I know. I just wanted to say Im having the exact same thing happening! So I hope I helped ya some. And you could always gauge and make a newer one

thanks! I made this particular one out of acrylic and have all ready put it through the washer and dryer and that didn't help. I guess I'll try to seam it up a bit. If that doesn't work, I've got enough yarn to make another one!!
