I finished this doily just recently. It is made with perle cotton threads size 5. I started it as a cal with a friend. She made the leaves. I made pineapples and more. It is my creation and I have copyrighted it.

Good for you! That's lovely! I love the bright colors, the wavy edges, the 3 dimensional yellow flowers and the pineapples in the corners. I am a huge fan of pineapple doilies and have made more than I can count.

You should be very proud of your creation!

I am , Thank you! I have been creating small doilies but never anything so large. It was fun and I am planning the next one.

Your design and colors are so lovely! Size 5 perle cotton is nice to work with. That gives me hope to make a doily! I haven't had any success with the tiny size 10 threads.

I will say that I think whatever you use should be something you enjoy working with. I use size 5 thread because I actually took some of my embroidery thread which is cotton perle and has softness and lots of sheen and used it to make the doily. It can be a bit more costly but I like trying new things. Special doilies are created with special threads. I have discovered that you can't always get the thread with the qualities you want so I go to other sources such as my embroidery threads. I am making a doily with Cebelia thread wich is really nice to feel and has a sheen but not as much as the embroidery thread.
Creating is a process of you and the materials. So have some fun experimenting! I made this Christmas tree using Cebelia and I am trying to decide whether to leave it alone or add something like a rose to the top of the tree.

Very good point about using threads you enjoy working with. When you mention embroidery thread...do you mean the standard DMC floss? Is that size 5? I hadn't thought of crocheting with that, but you'd have a world of colors available. I also have a TON of it and can't use it to cross stitch now because of poor vision.

I really love the Christmas tree! Beautiful symmetry.

When you but the embroidery thread label look and you will see a three or five on the label. That is the size thread meaning in thickness. Three is really thick and I have used that only once to make a doily. I used size 10 up to size 30 thread but after that I find it is like sewing thread. I even tried using sewing thread with three different colors as I have seen doilies using it. Way to much for me right now. I prefer seeing my thread and not trying to do it with a magnify glass. I know people who do use one but my eyes are good!
