I need help understanding these instructions:
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 47 sts. (P 1 row, K1row) twice. With C, p1 row. With C, work turning row as for back. (This last sentence I don't get...) Change to larger needles. With MC, (p1 row, k 1 row) twice, p 1 row. Work joining row as for back ( don't get this either). P 1 row. Beg with chart row 17, work in Chart Pat, AT SAME TIME, inc 1 st each side (working incs into pat) on 9th row, then every 8th row 9 times, every 10th row 2 time- 71 sts. Whew...do I need help....LOL

You have 2 colors - MC, the Main Color and C (or CC) the Contrast color. Cast on with the MC and p a row, k a row 2 times, that's 4 rows. Then start the C and p a row and I think you also purl the next row instead of knit it. A turning row shows as purl on the knit side where you turn up for a hem.

Then go back the MC and p a row, k a row twice, then p another row (5 rows with MC). I think the joining row is where you turn up the hem and join the sts with the cast on sts, knit them together - the next st with the first st of the CO, etc. Then purl another row, and start the chart at row 17. Then when reach the 9th row after joining, inc a st on each end of the row and do this every 8th row after that for 9 times, then every 10th row 2 times and you end up with 71 sts.

It refers to 'as for back'. Did you do that yet? There might be an explanation for the turning and joining rows in those instructions that might be different from how I interpret them.

Well...Thank you so much for your very thorough explanation! As I was re-reading the instructions, I realized that they should read ....."as for back"...it should be "as for body"....that's what confused me. The sweater is one piece and the left and right fronts are done separately. In the instructions the main body of the sweater is indicated as "body"....not back! So once I realized that it all made sense....I guess this reply doesn't make any sense either, but I feel better writing it...LOL Yes, it is that time of the day when I get a little koo koo....lol
