coral color wanted

I'd like to know the mixture that produces CORAL colored yarn, using koolaid.
I have pink lemonade koolaid, and orange and red koolaid.
I tries mixing pink lemonade, 2 paks, with 1 orange, and got orange yarn.
Any body have experience with kool aid dying?

I would do mostly orange with maybe a half packet of red the pink lemonade isn't strong enough a color to overcome the orangishness.
It would be ideal if you could find a koolaid color that is hot pink and then add just a wee wee bit of yellow or orange.
If all else fails go n get yourself some wilton food color gels and use them instead. They are the same thing as the koolaid colors anyway without the flavor. And they do have a peachy red almost coral looking color.

Thanks, I'll try that mixture, and JoAnn sells Wilton food colors, so,I'll see what I can find in the store, tomorrow.

This site says Food Colorings are a subset of the class of dyes known as Acid Dyes. They can be used to dye protein fibers only: that is, wool, silk, and also sometimes nylon. Heat is required; room-temperature dyeing will usually produce much less washfast results.

Is acrylic yarn, nylon?

OOOO, yer dying acrylic yarn, now THAT's a whole different animal, so to speak. I think for acrylic you would have to use something like RIT dyes. I don't think that food safe dyes will work on acrylic as it's not absorbant at all.

Do you think I could dye this? and if so with what?

Ah! I thought you were dyeing wool! Yes, Kool-Aid will only work for protein fibers. Acrylic is man-made, not protein. You can try it, but it will probably wash out, and all your work would be for nothing. I've never tried dyeing acrylic before, so I don't know how to help you with that.

i've dyed some cotton with little pouch of dye found at micheals..i'm not sure what the brand is.. it was a little messier and and i HAD to wear gloves and a mask. the dye took a while to rinse all out, but the color turned out great.

i'm sure there are other dyes out there that would be easier to use with cotton though
