Knit like a granny square?

Hey everyone! I'm just wondering if it's possible to knit a really simple square, starting in the center and increasing every row on the outside, like a crocheted granny square?
I'm sure that it's possible, but I wanna know if there's a simple way. I have this yarn and I'm not sure how much I have, though I know I can make a decent sized baby blanket. Since I'm not sure of the yardage, I don't wanna start making it so wide, then having it too long or not long enough. And I'd like a square, so I wanna knit it. Is there a simple way to do that, like cast on around and knit simple increases in the corners or something?

Is this what you mean? I didn't read the whole pattern so I'm not entirely sure if it's all one piece, but since it's called mitered I think it is.

it is possible to knit a granny square... the nurse i had 10 years ago when i was in labor with my firstborn knew how to knit them and was trying to help me figure out how to crochet a granny square (yes, i was crocheting while i was in labor LOL!)

Yes, you can knit in squares. By using dpns and increasing evenly on 4 corners.

The other option is a pinwheel blanket. You start in the center and go out until you run out of yarn. I think Elann has on on their website. (I know the sweater is there, not sure about a blanket, but all you do is leave out the sleeve holes!)
