I love Tropical Punch Slipper socks...I make them for myself, family, and friends...usually by the time Christmas rolls around again they need another pair ...I also like to give them to my friends who are expecting...include like a foot spa thing with the slipper socks so they can pamper themselves...
Scarf: Mistake rib
Sweater: Top Down Raglan knitting Pure and Simple
Baby Sweater: Knitting Pure and Simple Easy Baby Cardigan (free)
Hat: Stitch and Bitch "Hot Head"
Socks: Haven't tried yet
Shawl: Garter Stitch border/Stockinette middle
Small project: Grandma's favorite dishcloth ( I use smaller version of this for little coasters around the house)
For me, it's the Black Sheep Booga Bag. I've made three so far, and I have yarn to make another one -- this time for a friend. It makes for a unique gift and shows off knitting as something "cool." It's also easy enough for a beginning knitter and felter.
BUT the best pattern investment ever, I find, is a booklet with good basic sweaters, cardigans, vests in various neck styles and even yarn weights.
You can easily add fancy stitch elements to make them interesting and your own.
This is my current one, used several times, (British Standards) but I'm sure there are loads of others about (i.e. for American Standards and/or children's sizes). http://www.pandayarns.biz/publicatio...D=844&name=201
