Sewing granny squares together

Hello.

I am a little concerned by the way I should sew together my (crocheted) granny squares.

Is there some preferred technique, or are they all equal?
More or less visible?

Any help would be appreciated

Rather than actual sewing you might consider crocheting them tog. How visible, or not, you want the stitches to be is a matter of personal choice. Some joins are meant to be decorative, some are strictly utilitarian. You might want to do a few tests and see which look you like the best.

I always have used a yarn needle with the same yarn as used in your Granny squares - double the yarn for extra strength. Then just use the whip stitch, over and over, threading your needle beneath the "horse's hoof" top of each stitch on the two squares you're joining. Since all the squares were done from the same pattern, you should have the same number of stitches on each side of the two squares you're sewing together.

Crocheting them together is another option - this creates a smooth right-side and a ridged wrong-side to your piece. But it is a bit stronger than the sewing technique.

I have always crocheted granny squares together. You can use a contrasting color for accent or the same color as the outer row of squares so they blend together.

I have been thinking about two methods of doing it and found out that they were whipstitch and mattress stich. Good to know.

I also found a beautiful crocheted join with dc.

I'm not half through yet, so it's still going to take some while before I have to make up my mind

Hi I'm new .. and this question may have been answered sufficiently long before I showed up. I just wanted to suggest the Priscilla Hewitt Flat Braide Method of joining. I've done it on several afghans and it really gives a very nice finished look to the project. It took me some practice, but it was time well spent. Hope that helps.
