Need Help W/Creative Knitting Jan 2009 Pattern

Hi all! I need help ASAP.

I just bought the January 2009 issue of Creative Knitting. I want to make the Waffle Stitch Spa Cloth (pg 51). I think there's a mistake in the pattern, but I can't find an errata anywhere. Probably too soon, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Can someone take a look at the pattern and help?

The part I'm having a problem with is in Row 2. The numbers are not adding up. Really, Row 1 doesn't add up either, but I think they left off part of the instructions (you're supposed to do a K2 before the border stitches...instructions do not indicate this). The same reasoning won't work for Row 2 though.

I have no idea what to do!

Can you post just rows 1 and 2 (and the CO number); maybe we can help you even if we don't have the pattern.

Row 1: K3, *k2, P1; rep to last 3 stitches and K3
Row 2: K3, *k1, P2; rep to last 3 stitches and K3

I just checked my issue, and I think you're right. If you cast on 41 stitches and subtract 6 for the edging, that leaves you with 35. 35 is not divisible by 3, so you'd have to have 33 or 36 between the edging. The picture looks as if there are 33 stitches.

A gal on Ravelry suggested that I knit the extra stitch on Row 2, but after completing two pattern repeats, it looks like part of the rows are thrown off.

Ugh...

I've frogged it and think I will make the Turn Back Time Spa Cloth from the January 2008 issue.

I find it so annoying when a pattern seems obviously wrong....

The only way I could see that working, as written for 41 stitches, would be:

Row 1: K3, *k2, P1; rep to last 3 stitches (ending with K2); K3
Row 2: K3, *P2; K1; rep to last 3 stitches (ending with P2); K3

One day, when I have time, I'll try it with plain scrap yarn. I'm trying to get my sister's birthday gifts knitted up quickly because her birthday is the 9th of January. I have to allow time for mailing too.

Yes; that's a clearer way of writing what I was trying to convey.

I thought it might. It shows a multiple of 3, plus 5 sts which is what 41 is.
