Help with newborn wrap

Hi everyone!
I'm very new to knitting and haven't ever posted a thread here. I literally picked up the needles two weeks ago and think I have a pretty good handle on casting on, knitting, purl stitch, casting off and I'm working on the magic loop and knitting on circular needles.

One day I found these adorable little newborn wraps:

and ever since I have been obsessed with figuring out how to make them! Can anyone give me any tips on starting these? I thought I would start out with an ankle sock pattern and modify it...but I'm having trouble with the magic loop to do a seamless toe-up pattern. When I knit with the magic loop method, I get two sides that are perfectly knit, and then two sides that are so stretched and just look like strands holding the other two sides togehter. I can attach a picture if that doesn't make sense. Wow this post has gone in several directions...if anyone can help me out with anything I'd love it!!!

If I were to make this, I think I'd knit the hood flat down to where the body is. Then I'd cast on stitches for the front and work in the round down to the bottom. Do some decreases as you would at the top of a hat and pull the final stitches closed like the top of a hat--put the yarn through the loops and pull it tight like a drawstring.

Then I'd put a seam at the top of the head, pick up stitches around the opening and add a row or two of edging.

It wouldn't look exactly the same, but it'd work.

Yes, it is extremely cute, but I'd be very worried about little fingers and toes getting caught in the fabric.

Cutee! I wouldn't know how to make that, but if you DO figure it out, would you mind giving me the pattern? Also, maybe knit it a bit closer, because little fingers and toes could get caught in the holes! Thanks!

I'm sure you wouldn't put a naked baby in there. Socks or booties and a nightie with mitts would keep fingers and toes from poking through.
