What type of material is the yarn? How much yarn is 2 skeins? Would a verigated Homespun be a good substitute?

What an interesting stitch. Does it wind up being thick? Looking for something thick to make a "tween season" jacket out of and that looks like just the stitch to do it.

Yes, it is thick. That was one of the things I was looking for in a pattern and why I started over so many times.

It's baby alpaca. Each skein is 218 yards.

I think a variegated yarn would be lovely. That's basically what this was, since it didn't stripe.

Go for it! The stitch pattern is really, really great for showing off short stretches of color.

Lovely scarf. I wonder what keeps it lying so nice and flat? From looking at the the two sides it looks predominately st st. Thanks for the tip about preventing the flaring. I bet that would be useful on other scarves too. Nice pictures as well.
