Assistance required with pattern
Hello,

This may be a very silly question to ask, but I have never come across this term before and not sure what to do next. I am knitting the "Roaring Dinosaur" from the Knitted Toys book by Zoe Mellor.

I am currently knitting the "spines" and have completed rows 30-69. The next steps in the pattern says, "Continue as set, increasing to 9sts for the next 4 spines, then increasing to 7 sts for the next spine. Work 2nd-8th rows for the final spine. Fasten off." I am not sure what to do after row 69.

Below is the first part of the pattern:
1st row Inc.
2nd row Inc, k1.
3rd row K1, p1, inc.
4th row Inc, K1, p1, k1 (5sts)
5th row (K1, p1) twice, k1.
6th row P2tog, k1, p1, k1.
7th row K1, p1, k2tog.
8th row P2tog, k1.
9th row K2.
10th-17th rows Work as rows 2-9.
18th-20th rows Work as rows 2-4.
21st row (K1, p1)twice, inc.
22nd row Inc, (k1, p1) twice, k1. (7sts)
23rd row (K1, p1) three times, k1.
24th row P2tog, (k1, p1)twice, k1.
25th row (K1, p1) twice, k2tog.
26th-29th rows Work as rows 6-9.
30th-69th rows Work as 10th-29th rows, twice.

Continue as set, increasing to 9sts for the next 4 spines, then increasing to 7 sts for the next spine. Work 2nd-8th rows for the final spine. Fasten off.

Hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance!!

hi, I would suggest you go to your local knitting store. They are usually staffed with helpful and knowledgeable people willing to sit down with you and help.

Good Luck!

I'm assuming the spines on the dinosaurs body get smaller as they progress to the end of the tail. If so, it sounds as though the pattern is having you make the spines smaller. Is there a picture of the finished project to look at?

I looked up a picture- it looks like you just finished a k2 on row 69. Then you would keep the increasing & the k1 p1 until you were up to 9 stitches (like the rows for 7 stitches, just do 2 more increase rows until you were up to 9,) then 1 row k1, p1 with no increasing or decreasing, then back down with the k2tog & p2tog just like you did before. Do that for 4 spines, then do the 7 stitch spines (once you have 7 stitches, work one row k1 p1 w/ no increases or decreases, then start the decreasing), then 2-8 to make the last spine.

Make sense?
