Stretchy Newborn Hat for Hospital
I recently donated some baby blankets to my local hospital. While I was there, I asked if they need any other knitted items.

They said, "Yes, we could use some baby hats....NOT the tiny ones, though." They said they have LOTS of tiny hats, and they rarely get used. The bigger hats for normal sized newborns are what they really needed.

So, one of the nurses gave me a hat to use as a sample.

Here's the pattern I came up with from that hat:

Thank you so much, Sandy! I just found out our local hospital could use hats like this & I'm trying to start a compassion ministry at church so this pattern will come in very handy!

Last Christmas, one of the ladies in my knitting group gave us each a skein of Bernat
Satin along with a pattern for preemie hats and booties which will be donated to a hospital.
The year before, the animal shelters were requesting mats for the cages, so that was that year's project.
(Come to think of it, the LYS donated the skeins.) Anyway, seems that there's always a need. Guideposts magazine has a Knit for Kids sweater program. Here's the link for the sweater pattern, along with some information about the program: http://www.dailyguideposts.com/givea...assicT-Top.pdf

and a link for a more advanced sweater: http://www.dailyguideposts.com/help/Aran%20Pattern.doc

Sandy, thank you so much for giving of your time and talent to create this pattern! With warm weather soon approaching here in Texas, small items are all I care to be knitting (too hot for wool on my lap!). It's always a blessing to knit for charity; both the knitter and the recipients get blessed!
