Are Amys Videos From KnitPick
Recently at Ravelry someone asked about learning Continental techniques in the Continental Knitting group. I offered this:

Quote:
The free videos at knittinghelp show all the techniques in Continental, the gal who makes the videos prefers that method. She has two cameras or a two colored camera, click the pink portion for Continental. Link

Go to the purple bar at the top and highlight the tab called “View videos” and you will get a drop down menu that leads you to different topics.

And someone responded with this:

Quote:
With all respect, but it all is not hers - she adopted it all from KnitPick
I don't really care if the videos are "all (not) hers" or not, I'm just wondering if this is a true statement or someones sour grapes. Does anyone know?

First of all Amy wouldn't put videos on her website that she adapted from someone else w/o saying that she did so. She's much too honest and she has links to other sites to show other techniques..

Second, they aren't even the exact same technique. I also believe KH was around before KP even had a community group with videos. This woman is sadly mistaken IMO.

I'll pass this on to Sheldon and Amy for clarification.

That's true, this site and its videos was up long before knitpicks had their present format with the How To sections, and their videos are quite recent.

Yep, Amy was first. Amy's videos all appeared here in 2004 (some of our early videos were posted on her personal site dating back to early 2000 probably. That's where KH has it's humble beginnings). KnitPicks didn't have video until long after KH. I think they started doing videos just last year, or maybe 2007. Their videos are hosted by youtube which wasn't around when we started.

I think KP based some of their videos on Amy's content. We were watching a few of them a while back and were like "gee, these look kind of familiar!" We honestly don't care. These are all techniques, no one owns the techniques. There is bound to be some duplication when people cover the basics. You can say we all a little guilty of copying Elizabeth Zimmerman who was the first to take knitting to video.

Anyhow, you can set them straight over on the Ravelry group.

Cheers!

Sheldon

Thank you very much for that information. There are a few people over at Rav who present themselves as knowing things they don't know. I'll try to set them straight.

Thanks. Guess I could've looked you up, then your posts, but didn't think of it. Our desktop computer weirded out again and while it's nice to have the laptop, it's so much slower to move between sites the way I'm used to.
