Jan, I got it! I have it lying on the sofa so I keep evaluating if it's the right color. I THINK it is, but I'm going to give it a few days before I order. Thanks SO MUCH!!!!

OH good! The stupid USPS kept playing games with us so we sent it that way. If it doesn't work out this time at least you'll know what color it is for something else if you want.

I got a sample square done using Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn. I really like the colors- Antique White and Cranberry. I also like that the yarn is soft and cheap- $2.79 for 355 yards. But...it pilled pretty badly and the red seemed to "bleed" into the white. So I don't know if I would use this.

I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

You were smart to knit a sample square. You washed it already? Is that why you are saying you think the red is bleeding into the white??

If that is true, I wouldn't use this yarn.

Isn't there something we all used to do back in the ole days...with vinegar in the cold wash water for the first time we pre-washed dark denim jeans? Wasn't this supposed to set the dyes?

Do y'all think it would work to make it ONE panel wide and four or five panels long? I'm wanting it for a wall hanging and would do different flower motifs for each panel. About how wide/long would that be?

No I haven't washed it. That's why I had bleed in " ". What it looks like is the red yarn is fuzzing up pretty bad and covering up the white. So it looks a bit like it bled. Does that make sense?

I also notice that I got a rectangle more or less and not a square? Is that normal? I thought I would end up with a square.

Here's the pic of my sample "square". It's about 9" x 6", hardly a square! Not sure what I did wrong, but I can hardly imagine a blanket made like that.

That bind off edge looks pretty bad because I was trying different bind offs to see what one I preferred.

I'm also trying to think of a different border idea. I don't necessarily want to do the seed stitch border with both yarns. I though about jumping right into the double knit part, but that leaves a rather unattractive edge. I also tried picking up stitches and that didn't look good either. The other thing I thought about was doing seed stitch in a solid color. That would look great on one side, but not so much the other. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on this?

I think your sample looks divine! Great color combination!

Me thinks it is a 'rectangle' due to 'row gauge' that's not stacking up as tall as it should.

The only thing I can think of to correct the squashed appearance is to add rows inside the squares. Or maybe above and below the motif.

Ladies who are working on Sylvi, whose row gauge was squashed, but they needed the prescribed length, added rows to the chart for the BACK in discreet areas that wouldn't look odd.

Does that make sense? Here is the back of Sylvi:

Some gals added rows within the cable charts! So their SYLVI wouldn't be too short cuz their row gauge was squashed (too short).

Could you do that?

About the border: others in this KAL will know more about border choices.

Lieuvena~ That is really pretty and that yarn would fit my budget, I hate to hear that it bleed...I wonder although this is a lot of work...if you put it in a hank and then soaked it in vinegar if that would help?

Gina~I'm not really sure how long/wide that would make it...prolly be best to do a gauge and then you could prolly see

I really should clarify that the yarn I used didn't actually bleed. I have not washed it yet. I should have used a different word to explain it. I put the word bleed in quotation marks because that's not what happened.

What seems to have happened is that the yarn got pretty fuzzy while knitting with it (pilling?). It looks like the fibers from the red yarn sort of wove in with the fibers from the white yarn. So it *looks* sort of like the yarn bled. I just used that word to give a visual idea of what it looked like.

I do like the yarn and may still use it, I'm just not sure. I'll wait and see what happens when I do get around to washing it.
