Should the LYS cut out knots?

Hi everyone. I just bought a skein of yarn at the LYS and the owner came out and told me she cut the yarn where a knot was while she was winding it. What is the etiquette here? She was more concerned that I didn't lose yardage but I was more concerned that she created a break in the yarn. Is it common for the "winder-person" to cut the skein?

I think it's certainly unusual for them to cut w/o asking and they probably shouldn't, but you wouldn't knit the knot anyway since you'd have to cut it so it's not a big deal. If you don't like it tell them not to cut knots out next time.
