How to make leather bottoms for clogs

I just made some felted clogs for my daughter, she wants leather bottoms on them so she can wear them outdoors. We have a leather outlet near us, I can buy scrap leather, enough for 2 soles, for about $3.00. I have the leather all cut, but I'm not sure how to make the little holes in them that are needed to sew them on. Does any one know of a leather punch ( and what size) I can use to make the holes?

its not the "right" way to do it, but i would just get a scrap piece of wood, a nail and a hammer... homemade punch

Ok, well I have done some leather work and yes you can use a small nail or something to make the holes but, you also should make grooves for where you want the thread to sit ( or else it will where really fast) and that takes a special tool. I would go take a look at the leathering tools first then see if you think you can jimmy something p out of things in your garage... but it might just be cheaper to take them to a shoe guy ( I say guy but it might be a girl, though I have never seen it!). You will also need special thread and needle that can hold up to the leather. Also you could thread it with leather thongs as well ( thins would hold up well). So I hope this info makes sense I have been up since 3:30 this morning w/babies!
