In Search of a Purse Pattern
I'm looking for a purse pattern using 4 oz./115gms. First of all, is this possible and second, I would like a small tote shape--not a "sack with drawstring" Any help with this would be great! Thank you in advance!! And maybe I could use this yarn to make into a headband for my little girl?

I'm not sure if that tells us how much yarn you have, or maybe I should say it doesn't tell me.

Here are some places to look for patterns, though:

There are dozens of purse patterns so we really do need more information. The physical weight of it doesn't really tell us anything.

Do you want a felted bag?
What fiber is your yarn?
How many YARDS do you have?
How many skeins?

I am SO sorry! People that are new to knitting must be so tiresome. ; ) I have one ball, 4oz, 377 yards, 60% acrylic, 40% Polyamide, Baby Bee yarn from Hobby Lobby. Although I am new to knitting, I didn't want to make a scarf or hat (I did that). My third project was a felted needle case for my mom. This would be my fourth project. I hope this helps so I can get help. I already have checked SO MANY free pattern sites before I wrote here.

Don't be silly - if more experienced knitters found new knitters tiresome, the more experienced ones wouldn't be here!

The only thing is, with only one ball of your yarn, you may need to keep it on the smaller side. And like you said, there are so many free patterns it's hard for us to say what you'll like.

If you see one you like but it uses more then the 377 yards you have, try to think if you can size it down a bit to make it work. Say the bigger one you cast on 55 stitches, think about what size it will be if you only cast on 35. Or maybe it's 13" tall, maybe try making it only 9" tall. Or if the pattern you like has knit handles, maybe you can buy wooden handles, then you'd have more yarn for the body of the bag.

Here is a pattern I made.

It's the second one down that they show and it's felted.

No problem, Jill!

That yarn can't be felted so you can skip those patterns. As Marilyn said the bag will have to be small with only that much yarn, however you can add another yarn to it and get a bigger one if you want.

I can't find the gauge on the yarn, but it says size 6 us needles so I'm guessing maybe sport or dk?

You could do a little bag like this -

Sorry, I forget you only had so much yarn to work with. So no my idea will not work for you.
