Crocheted edge question

I'm doing this shawl:

I have limited crocheting experience and want to make sure that I do the egde right.

It calls for you to take 3 st, yo, draw thru the st on the hook, chain 7 and repeat.

I have no clue how to begin. Any tips or videos?

When you bind off, keep the last stitch of bind off and begin with that. If you already fastened it, do a slipknot on the hook, insert into a stitch, yo, draw through slip knot to attach, then pick up 2 stitches.

Okay, it looks like you will have 171 stitches on your knitting needle.
Place the knitting needle in your left hand (crochet in your right).
Hold the yarn behind your work. It will be like K3 tog through back loop.
Insert the crochet needle from the right to the left through 3 stitches (loops). YO same as if you were knitting, pull the YO through the 3 stitches (loops). Chain 7.
Insert the crochet needle from the right to the left through the next 3, YO and pull it through. This will create a 7 chain loop.
Just keep doing this till you get to the end.
171/3=57. Finish by YO draw through to tie the last 3 stitches, fasten off.

Albert, that is a great explanation. I'd just point out that you slip the three stitches, purl wise, from the needle to the hook and then YO and draw that YO loop through the three others on the hook.

Bambi, crochet works best if you can hold the yarn in your left hand (similar to continental style). I now see you said you had limited crochet experience, not none.

Yep, and that's what gets crocheters who switch to knitting confused a lot. They tend to wrap their yarn the same way as in crocheting whether they hold it in their left or their right hand. That makes for twisted stitches if they don't compensate by working tbl on the next row.

Boys to the rescue today! I have one more day before I get to the edge and I think I'll make a test square with a couple rows and try binding it off in the manner described. I am knitting it as a gift and want it to look beautiful.
