I have a pattern for a little girl's shrug. I have knitting the 2 arms and sewn them together (so the seam is up and down along the back). It now says to
"With right side facing and size 7 needles, pick up and Knit 62 stitches along row ends".
The problem I have is that the bottom edge has more than 62 stitches... more like 84 stitches. So, do I randomly pick up 31 on each side of the seam? If I skip every other stitch, I end up picking up 21 on each side for a total of 42 picked up stitches.
Or do I count from the seam outward 31 stitches?
Here are pics of the shrug. As you can see there is ribbing all the way round it so I'm more than confused.
After I knit the rib for the lower back border, I then pick up stitches along the front and neck to rib them separately.
Any help is much appreciated. This is my first attempt at reading a "sweater" pattern (I've made lots of bags off of patterns, but I've never picked up stitches before).
