Vertigo, I usually knit on the OUTSIDE of the circle. Imagine that you are drinking from a cup....I knit on the side you would sip from. The inside of the hat is on the inside of the cup. The outside of the hat is on the outside of the cup.

Some people knit the other way around, so their hat is inside out as they knit.
