The way I was shown at some western park with yucca was you smash the leaves with a rock until there's nothing left but fibers.
Of course this was making rope, not yarn so it would probably be quite rough.

Heh. The only rhubarb I've ever seen was at the grocery store or in a pie. Green stalks with something fiberish inside? I'd be very, very tempted to try....
