I use them for holding the edges together for mattress seaming. I use them for "mock seaming" an entire sweater together for a "fitting" prior to blocking and seaming.

Sleeve length is critical IMO. A poorly fit sleeve can spoil the look of a sweater, and is a guarantee that you won't like wearing it either.
This is a perfect length for me.

coat, I needed to know FOR SURE where the shoulder seams would fall: to the edge
of my shoulders, or down over
my shoulders? As you can plainly see, these shoulders dropped down over
my natural shoulder, and I made my sleeves accordingly shorter due to that information.
